Loreto Pelayo Combo
The Loreto Pelayo Combo is a jazz combo dedicated to the traditions of swing, bebop, and
Afro-Brazilian jazz, while also
faithfully incorporating modern and cultural Belizean influences. The ensemble mainly functions as the
Loreto Pelayo Trio,
with Christopher "Doc" De Shield on double bass, and Josh Herrera on drums.
The combo has recieved numerous awards and accolades, including winning the first-place position in the
ensemble category for the 2021 Belize International Jazz Festival Competion,
and second-place in the instrumental category for the 2020 Belize International Jazz Festival
Competition.
The trio has also been featured internationally
as part of a selection by the Ministerio de Cultura de Cuba for the Día Internacional del Jazz
2021, and has performed selections for
a myriad of local events, including jazz arrangements of Brukdown classics for the 2020 Virtual
Creole Brukdong Festival, peformances for the
2020 and 2021 Belize Chamber of Commerce & Industry AGM, was an opening act for the 2021
Belize Music Week, and performed a jazz arrangement commisioned for the 2021 BEL Community
Spotlight.
The band has also performed on live television on the popular morning show Open Your Eyes in July
2021, and in collaboration with Belize Music Agency's
Southside Music Programme as part of Love FM's 12 Days of Christmas in December 2019.
The ensemble has also performed at a number of national venues, including the Alaia Marriott
Autograph Collection Hotel in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, the University of Belize,
in Belmopan, Cayo, and as part of the 2020 Street Art Festival on the youth stage in Belize City,
Belize.
